3, students read more complex text and chapter books
with accuracy, fluency and expression that shows understanding.
Comparisons and contrasts author抯 styles and purposes
(e.g. author study) are common. Students begin to infer
word meanings from taught roots, prefixes and suffixes.
Problem solving is the overarching theme for all math
topics. This means that number sense, computational skills,
graphing, estimation, mental arithmetic, geometry, measurement,
and probability are all presented in a problem solving
context.
